Though educated in a traditional Jewish background, his service to congregations has been trans-denominational-based in Conservative, Reform and Jewish Renewal traditions. He was one of the pioneers in the use of multimedia techniques in sermonic expression. In Chicago, he and his wife Ina founded Makom Shalom, a Jewish Renewal congregation that explores both traditional and holistic paths toward building spiritual intimacy. www.makomshalom.com
In August, 2008, Rabbi Secher was the first rabbi installed in Flathead County, Montana to serve Bet Harim Jewish Community of the Flathead.The congregation was founded over 20 years ago.
Ordained by Hebrew Union College, New York in 1961, he subsequently earned his Doctor of Divinity degree. He has served pulpits in Chicago, Los Angeles Mexico City, New York and Bozeman, Montana.
In January 2005, he was appointed Commissioner on the Montana State Human Rights Commission by Governor Brian Schweitzer. He also serves on the Ethics Committee of North Valley Hospital in Whitefish, Montana, and is a director on the board of The Whitefish Theatre Company.
Rabbi Secher graduated Brandeis University with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.
